The future of our oceans is at stake. Destructive fishing practices like factory trawling are devastating marine ecosystems, threatening entire species, and jeopardizing the livelihoods of countless individuals.

But we can make a change.

The Problem:

  • Factory bottom trawling, a destructive fishing method, scrapes the ocean floor, harming ecosystems and creating massive amounts of bycatch, the accidental capture and discard of unwanted marine life.

  • Many people are unaware of the widespread environmental damage and ethical concerns associated with factory trawling.

  • The longer this practice continues, the more harm it inflicts on our oceans and the marine life they sustain.

Stay Informed:

  • Learn more about harmful fishing practices and sustainable alternatives.

  • Connect with organizations fighting for ocean conservation.

  • Become an advocate for responsible seafood consumption.

Take Action:

  • Spread Awareness: Educate yourself and others about trawling and its consequences. Share information on social media, talk to friends and family, and support organizations fighting for sustainable fishing practices.

  • Demand Change: Contact your local, state, and federal representatives. Urge them to implement stricter regulations on factory trawling or advocate for its complete ban.

  • Make Informed Choices: Choose seafood caught using sustainable methods like pot fishing or hook-and-line. Avoid products labeled "sustainably sourced" from large corporations, as these claims are often misleading. Opt for local fish markets and smaller suppliers whenever possible.

  • Support the Cause: Donate to or volunteer with organizations like Oceania, AMCC, and Salmonstate who are actively working to end harmful trawling practices.
